iOS4 and Android

Host: Adrian Kosmaczewski

On November 12, 1990, Bill Gates gave the keynote address at Comdex. The speech was titled ""Information At Your Fingertips"" and laid out Bill's vision of personal computing in the 1990s. 20 years later, it isn't Microsoft but Apple and Google who are delivering a literal and groundbreaking interpretation of that title.

Apple's App Store, arguably one of the most important milestones in the history of the software business, has over 300'000 applications ready for download. Hundreds of thousands of new iOS and Android devices are sold and activated every day. The new frontier is more than just a fancy cellphone, it is a touchscreen with a cellular chip inside, and the whole industry is trying to catch up, to adapt, knowing that a failure to do so means the end of their businesses.

Since Bill's speech, however, the web came and swept many preconceptions about information, accessibility, connectivity and telecommunications in general. Wired announces the death of the web but, is it so? Or is this new frontier only the path to its rebirth?
