JAOO won the battle of the genders

Trifork A/S did nothing illegal, when the IT company chose to give women free access to software engineering conference JAOO in Aarhus last year. The Danish ministry of Gender Equality has just ruled in favour of JAOO.

"I am really pleased that our initiative has been decriminalized, so to say. Our intention has always been to give a professional hand to a very small minority in this industry - women, "says Kresten Krab Thorup, CTO at Trifork and a man like 96 percent of the IT industry.   In its decision, The Ministry of Gender Equality states:  "The Board took into consideration, that the aim has been to promote equality between women and men. The campaign in question is therefore legal”.

The number of women at JAOO is usually between two and three percent. Last year 14 percent of the participants were women, thanks to the offer of free access. At the same time Trifork had initiated a networking event for women at the conference that resulted in the founding of a network for women in IT. "Going forward, I think it is natural to do something extra to motivate women. They usually have other types of skills than men, and I think it is important to grasp if we must strengthen our international competitiveness and growth of the Danish IT industry," explains Kresten Krab Thorup.

At the JAOO conference this year women are offered a one day ticket for Tuesday October 5 that include a great networking event - just for women! for the price of DKK 3000 (regular price: DKK 5500, it is not possible to combine different price reductions.)
