Alexander Heusingfeld is a senior consultant for software architecture and engineering at innoQ in Germany. As a consultant, software architect and developer he supports customers with his long-term knowings of Java and JVM-based systems. Most often he is involved in the design, evaluation and implementation of architectures for enterprise application integration (EAI), modern web-applications and microservices.

As a consultant, Alexander Heusingfeld has seen both sides of the coin: on the one hand, he gets to know the leading-edge technologies that have just become ready for the market. On the other hand, there are customers with conservative operation teams, legacy systems, and strict data security regulations.
In this session, he shares some learnings from consulting gigs, what business domain thinking meant, and why the DevOps mindset can change the team spirit. He explains some approaches he used to iteratively modernize legacy systems into multiple self-contained systems, the different levels of architectural decisions to be taken and the impact on a classic organization structure this architectural approach has.
