Distributed Systems Renaissance

Host
Steve Vinoski
Track abstract
Distributed systems research has been ongoing for decades, yet during that time relatively few developers ever had to deal with creating and deploying them in production. But over the past decade, with advances in large-scale web systems, cloud computing, massive multiplayer online gaming, and distributed non-relational databases, many developers are suddenly finding themselves thrown into the deep end of distributed application development and having to rediscover the hard lessons learned over all those decades of distributed systems research. This track features case studies from companies developing and deploying distributed systems in production, as well as recent developments in distributed systems research that are starting to appear in production systems. Speakers will be sharing their hard-won lessons, useful techniques, things to watch out for, and pointers to important research from days gone by.
